PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Dix Solar LLC (True Green Capital) contracted with the Federal Government to lease the property for the construction of a solar array at their closed landfill at Joint Base MDL. Dix Solar contracted Conti to engineer, construct, and commission the 16.5MW ballast mounted solar installation.
Conti engineered, procured and constructed the 16.5MW ballast mounted array between December 2016 and April 2017. Work consisted of installation of almost 5,000 ballast foundations for the solar array (as ground penetrations are prohibited on landfills), racking and installation of approximately 51,000 solar modules. Conti’s work also include the DC and AC work associated with the solar array including the setting of six central skid inverters, two switches and a switchgear at the point of interconnection.
Conti self-performed the civil work, ballast installations and racking installation while managing subcontractors performing electrical engineering, electrical installations including modules, DC, AC, Medium Voltage and testing. The site included a 3100LF medium voltage AC line from the point of interconnection to the solar array field.
Conti constructed the entire array through the harshest winter months in the northeast all while maintaining the owner’s budget and finishing one week ahead of schedule.
The team received the Best Project Award for outstanding performance in the Energy/Industry category from the Engineering News-Record.
