PROJECT DESCRIPTION

One of the largest rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays in New England, this net metering distributed generation project for a manufacturing facility in Leominster, Massachusetts provides a cost offset to the owner’s electrical usage.

Conti performed engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for this 3.2 MW DC roof-mounted PV system, a distributed generation solar array which connects to the existing National Grid distribution system.

Conti entered into an EPC agreement with SolSystems to obtain the necessary permitting and then design and construct the array, including necessary electrical and coordination work to interconnect with the local utility. Conti transferred and assembled more than 10,000 solar panels on the manufacturing facility’s 515,540 square foot (over 13 acres) rooftop.

This project presented several challenges to the Conti team, including modifying interconnection designs halfway through the project, working with space restrictions and around existing HVAC equipment and the structural weight limitations of the roof. Through detailed design and planning, Conti met the size and production requirements of this project while minimizing the amount of material needed.
