PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Conti Solar was contracted by Falck Renewables to design, procure and install a 6.0 MW ground mount solar array in the 100-year-old Richardson Dairy Farm.
Decades before, the site had been a gravel pit with approximately 80% of solid ledge. Conti Solar had to predrill all the foundation screws, pull out numerous large rocks when trenching for wiring and break up solid areas. In some locations, the ledge was continuous, so the team had to lay the conduit at the surface and cover it with concrete to avoid the substantial costs of hammering the whole area.
The Middleton Solar Park’s stony terrain and extreme weather required Conti Solar to conquer the elements not just once, but continually while constructing the 16,000 solar panel project. The site was affected by three nor’easter storms in March and the snow cover made it difficult for the crew to work efficiently but with great teamwork the site was successfully completed.
This project delivers the preferred resource of renewable solar electricity to Middleton Electric Light Department under a long-term power purchase agreement. It also allows the city to sell Renewable Energy Credits, in addition to qualifying for the federal Investment Tax Credit Incentive (ITC).
