Gravel Pit is the largest solar project built by CS Energy to date.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Gravel Pit project is located in picturesque former tobacco fields and sand and gravel pits situated on 485 acres. CS Energy was contracted on the project, to provide full mechanical and electrical installation, along with select procurement.

The project, located in Broad Brook, Connecticut, consists of over 275,000 solar panels mounted on a combination of both fixed tilt and tracker racking systems, all of which are tied back to 40 central inverter skids across the site. From these inverters, the power makes its way to a substation which sits in the middle of the project where it will be distributed to the grid.

To tackle the install, CS Energy utilized multiple staging locations throughout the site and enacted rigorous material tracking processes to remain organized. These processes, in addition to CS Energy’s quality control and assurance, safety program and measures, and other construction monitoring activities, all contributed to the project’s success.

This project delivers affordable, renewable energy to customers in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island – producing enough clean energy to power over 12,000 homes. The project is consistent with Connecticut’s vision of a clean energy future and will help stabilize energy prices in Connecticut and across New England.
