CS Energy was contracted to engineer, procure and construct a 50.7 MW portfolio of co-located ground mounted solar arrays on a former sand and gravel pit in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

The portfolio is the largest solar project in Rhode Island to date. It will provide clean power to a local University as part of their mission towards securing power through sustainable means.

CS Energy engineered, procured, constructed, and commissioned the project (civil, electrical, mechanical and communication scopes). The project has four (4) 10 MWac interconnections and is designed in such a way that we were able to maximize energy production for the entire site without derating any inverters and adhering to max AC power we can output.

The construction in the field was completed ahead of schedule by 12 weeks. Starting and finishing post installation quickly allowed the local electrical crews to peak quicker than scheduled which pulled in the overall timeline. The entire site was regraded and stabilized with topsoil and seeding, various stormwater controls were added to manage water and protect nearby wetlands and the team worked through various subsurface challenges to complete the racking and electrical installation.

This portfolio will generate lower-cost solar energy for a prestigious local university and contribute to the state’s target of 100% Renewable Electricity by 2030.
